Ayushman Card Hospital in Gopalganj: PM-JAY at Dr. R.K. Thakur Hospital

Dr. R.K. Thakur Hospital is an Ayushman card hospital in Gopalganj. If your family has an Ayushman card, you may be able to have your operation with us without paying for the services your package covers. We are empanelled under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), and our own help desk (sahayata kendra) guides you at every step. Our team explains what is covered, how Ayushman card se operation works, how to check your eligibility and what to do, step by step.

What we cover under Ayushman

We have been empanelled under PM-JAY since about January 2022, and our empanelment was renewed in July 2025. It covers general surgery and laparoscopic surgery packages, about 50 procedures, such as:

As of mid-2025, gynaecology and urology packages were not part of our empanelment. This means operations such as removal of the uterus, kidney stone surgery or prostate surgery may not be covered at our hospital under Ayushman. Empanelment can change, so please always confirm with our help desk before admission.

Coverage depends on the package rules, your eligibility and our empanelment at the time. Our help desk checks every case individually.

How to check if you are eligible

Eligibility is decided by the government from its own lists, not by us. You can check it in these ways:

  • Visit the official portal beneficiary.nha.gov.in and search with the details it asks for, such as your Aadhaar number.
  • Call the national Ayushman helpline 14555.
  • Visit a Common Service Centre (CSC) near you.
  • Ask at our Ayushman help desk when you come to the OPD.

Senior citizens aged 70 and above

From 2024, PM-JAY was extended to all senior citizens aged 70 years and above, whatever the family income, through the Ayushman Vay Vandana card. If your parent or grandparent is 70 or older, they can apply through the official Ayushman app, the beneficiary portal or a CSC. Rules can be updated, so please check the latest details on the portal or on 14555.

Documents to bring

  • Ayushman card (or Ayushman Vay Vandana card), or the card number or e-card on your phone
  • The patient's Aadhaar card
  • A mobile phone linked to the patient's Aadhaar, for OTP
  • Ration card, if our help desk asks for it
  • All old reports, prescriptions and discharge papers

Step by step at our hospital

  1. See Dr. Rajnish Kumar Thakur, our founder and chief surgeon, in the OPD (Monday to Friday, 10 am to 7 pm). He examines you and, based on your tests, decides what treatment you need.
  2. Bring your documents to our Ayushman help desk. Our staff verify the patient's identity and eligibility, usually through Aadhaar.
  3. Our help desk checks whether your treatment falls under a package for which we are empanelled, and explains what is covered.
  4. For planned surgery, we send the details to the scheme for approval (pre-authorisation).
  5. Once approval comes, we admit you and the operation goes ahead as planned by the surgeon.
  6. At discharge, please collect your discharge summary and follow-up advice, and keep all papers safe.
In an emergency, please do not wait for paperwork. Bring the patient straight to our emergency and tell our staff that you have an Ayushman card.

Our Ayushman help desk

Ayushman Bharat help desk at Dr. R.K. Thakur Hospital

Our Ayushman Bharat help desk (sahayata kendra) is inside the hospital. Our staff check cards, help with verification, explain which package applies and handle the approval papers with the scheme. Please meet them right after your OPD visit, and ask every question before admission, not after.

To check before you travel, please call or WhatsApp us on +91 72739 94786. For a detailed guide, read how to use your Ayushman card for surgery.

What a package usually includes

Each PM-JAY package has its own rules. In general terms, a surgical package usually includes:

  • Tests and consultation linked to the operation, as per the package rules
  • The operation, the operation theatre and anaesthesia
  • The hospital bed and nursing care during the stay
  • Medicines and consumables used during the stay
  • Food during the hospital stay, as per scheme rules
  • Some care after discharge, as defined in the package
OPD visits alone are generally not covered, because PM-JAY is mainly for treatment that needs admission. Our help desk will tell you what applies to your case.

If your claim is not approved

Sometimes the scheme does not approve a request, for example when the procedure is not in our package list or eligibility cannot be verified. If this happens:

  • Ask our help desk to explain the reason in simple words.
  • Ask whether a missing document or detail can be added and the request sent again.
  • Call the national helpline 14555 for doubts or complaints about the scheme.
  • Ask our doctor about your treatment options. We always explain costs before admission.

Frequently asked questions

Is Dr. R.K. Thakur Hospital an Ayushman card hospital in Gopalganj?

Yes. We have been empanelled under Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY since about January 2022, with renewal in July 2025. Our empanelment covers general surgery and laparoscopic surgery packages, about 50 procedures, such as gallbladder stone, hernia, hydrocele and appendix operations. Our Ayushman help desk is inside the hospital. Please call +91 72739 94786 to check before you travel.

How does Ayushman card se operation work at your hospital?

First, see Dr. Rajnish Kumar Thakur in our OPD; he decides what treatment you need. Then bring your documents to our Ayushman help desk, where the patient's identity and eligibility are verified, usually through Aadhaar. If your operation falls under a package we are empanelled for, we request approval (pre-authorisation) from the scheme. Once it is approved, we admit you and the operation goes ahead.

Is every operation free at an Ayushman card hospital in Gopalganj?

No. PM-JAY works through fixed packages, and each hospital is empanelled only for certain specialities. Our empanelment covers general and laparoscopic surgery packages. As of mid-2025, gynaecology and urology packages were not included, so operations such as hysterectomy, kidney stone or prostate surgery may not be covered at our hospital. Our help desk confirms each case before admission.

How do I know if my name is on the Ayushman list?

Visit the official portal beneficiary.nha.gov.in and search with the details it asks for, such as your Aadhaar number. You can also call the national helpline 14555, visit a Common Service Centre, or ask at our Ayushman help desk. Eligibility is decided by the government from its own lists, not by us.

What documents should I bring?

Please bring the Ayushman card or its number, the patient's Aadhaar card, and a mobile phone linked to that Aadhaar for OTP. Bring a ration card if our help desk asks for it, and all old reports, prescriptions and discharge papers. Meeting our help desk right after your OPD visit helps avoid delays before surgery.

My father is above 70. Can he use the Ayushman Vay Vandana card here?

From 2024, PM-JAY was extended to all senior citizens aged 70 and above, regardless of family income, through the Ayushman Vay Vandana card. He can apply through the official Ayushman app, the beneficiary portal or a Common Service Centre. Once he has the card, our help desk will check whether his operation is covered here. Please check the latest rules on 14555.

What should I do if my Ayushman claim is not approved?

First, ask our help desk to explain the reason. Sometimes a missing document or detail can be added and the request sent again. If the procedure is not covered here, our doctor will explain your options and the costs before admission. For doubts or complaints about the scheme, you can call the national helpline 14555.

Can I use my Ayushman card in a private hospital?

Yes. PM-JAY can be used at empanelled private hospitals as well as government hospitals, but only for the packages each hospital is empanelled for. Dr. R.K. Thakur Hospital is a private hospital empanelled for general surgery and laparoscopic surgery packages. You can ask the national helpline 14555 which hospitals near you are empanelled, and our help desk will confirm your case before admission.
