A swallowed coin removed from a child's stomach without surgery

A young girl had swallowed a coin, and her family had been told that only a hospital in Gorakhpur could remove it. At our hospital, we took the coin out through the mouth using upper GI endoscopy, with no cut on the abdomen.

What parents should know

If your child swallows a coin, please do not force vomiting or give food. Bring the child to our emergency department straight away. An X-ray shows where the coin is, and in many cases we can remove it by endoscopy.
