Lipoma Removal in Gopalganj (Fatty Lump Excision)

Lipoma Removal (Excision of a Fatty Lump)

We remove a lipoma, a soft fatty lump under the skin, usually under local anaesthesia as a day-care procedure, and send the tissue for a biopsy report.

We offer lipoma removal in Gopalganj for soft fatty lumps under the skin, usually as a short day-care procedure. A lipoma is almost always harmless, and at Dr. R.K. Thakur Hospital it is removed by Dr. Rajnish Kumar Thakur, our founder and chief surgeon, MS (General Surgery), usually under local anaesthesia, and we send the tissue for a biopsy report. Patients come to us from Gopalganj, Siwan, Chhapra, Motihari, Bettiah, Kushinagar and Deoria. Many people first ask about lipoma treatment without surgery: creams and tablets do not dissolve a lipoma, so we watch a small, quiet lump and remove a troublesome one. Families trust Dr. Thakur for his 16+ years of surgical experience, more than 10,000 surgeries and his work at IGIMS Patna and Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi. At your OPD visit, we explain the lipoma removal recovery time and what decides the lipoma surgery cost. To consult, please visit our OPD (Monday to Friday, 10 am to 7 pm) or WhatsApp your reports to +91 72739 94786.

What is a lipoma?

A lipoma is a soft, smooth, slow-growing lump made of fat cells, lying directly under the skin. It feels doughy, moves slightly when pressed and usually does not hurt. Lipomas are common on the back, shoulders, neck, arms and thighs, and some people have more than one.

Lipomas are almost always harmless (benign). Very rarely, a fatty lump that is large, deep or fast-growing turns out to be a different kind of growth, which is why we check such lumps carefully. Lipoma excision means removing the lump through a small cut. The removed fat is sent for histopathology (a biopsy report) to confirm the diagnosis.

Lipoma symptoms and warning signs

  • A soft, doughy lump under the skin that moves slightly when pressed
  • Slow growth over months or years
  • Usually does not hurt, though some lipomas ache if they press on a nerve
  • Lumps on the back, shoulder, neck, arm or thigh
  • Warning sign: a hard, fixed, deep or fast-growing lump, or one larger than about 5 cm

When should a lipoma be removed?

A small lipoma that is not growing and causes no trouble can be watched. We usually advise removal when the lipoma is growing, painful, large, pressing on nearby structures, affecting how you look, or when the diagnosis is uncertain.

Please get it checked quickly if the lump is larger than about 5 cm, hard, fixed, deep under the muscle or growing fast. In such cases, we may advise an ultrasound, and sometimes further tests, before removal. Creams, oils and home remedies do not remove a lipoma.

How is lipoma removal done?

  1. Examination, and ultrasound when needed
  2. Local anaesthesia (a numbing injection); spinal or general anaesthesia for very large or deep lipomas
  3. A small cut over the lump, along skin lines where possible
  4. The lipoma is removed completely with its thin capsule
  5. Stitches and a dressing; the tissue is sent for histopathology

Lipoma removal recovery time

You can usually go home within a few hours and resume light work the next day. Keep the dressing clean and dry. Mild pain or swelling for a few days is common and settles with the prescribed medicines. Avoid heavy use of the area for about a week. Stitches, if not dissolvable, are usually removed in 7 to 10 days. Please show your biopsy report to our doctor at the follow-up visit.

Wound care and precautions after lipoma removal

You can usually go home within a few hours. These steps help the wound heal well:

  • Dressing: keep it clean and dry, and bathe only when our doctor allows.
  • Pain and swelling: mild pain or swelling for a few days is common and settles with the prescribed medicines. A cold pack over the dressing may help, if advised.
  • Activity: light work can usually resume the next day. Avoid heavy use or stretching of the area for about a week, especially for lipomas on the back, shoulder or arm.
  • Stitches: if not dissolvable, they are usually removed in 7 to 10 days.
  • Food: no special diet is needed. Eat normal home food, and keep sugar controlled if you have diabetes.
  • Report: please collect the biopsy report and show it to our doctor at the follow-up visit.
  • Please come back early if there is fever, pus, spreading redness, a swelling that keeps growing under the wound, or increasing pain.

Benefits

  • Removes the lump and any pain or pressure it causes
  • Usually done under local anaesthesia as day-care
  • A small, neat scar placed along skin lines where possible
  • The biopsy report confirms the diagnosis
  • Complete removal makes it uncommon for the lipoma to come back
Possible risks:

Lipoma removal is a minor operation. Possible risks include bleeding, a collection of blood or fluid under the skin, wound infection, a visible scar and, uncommonly, the lipoma coming back, especially if it was not removed in one piece. Our surgeon lowers these risks with careful removal, a firm dressing and clear aftercare advice.

Lipoma surgery cost and the Ayushman card

There is no single price for lipoma removal, because every lipoma is different. The cost mainly depends on:

  • the size, depth and number of lipomas
  • local anaesthesia, or spinal or general anaesthesia for very large or deep lipomas
  • whether an ultrasound is needed before surgery
  • the histopathology (biopsy) report
  • day-care or an overnight stay, dressings and medicines

Removing one small lipoma under local anaesthesia needs far fewer resources than removing several large or deep ones. After the examination, we give you a clear estimate before the procedure, and you can send your reports on WhatsApp first. Our hospital is empanelled under Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY for general surgery packages. Our Ayushman help desk confirms whether your lipoma removal is covered, and under which package, so please bring your Ayushman card and Aadhaar card and ask before the procedure.

Lipoma: frequently asked questions

Is a lipoma dangerous?

Most lipomas are harmless fatty lumps and do not affect health. They are removed mainly when they grow, hurt or bother you. Very rarely, a lump that looks like a lipoma is a different kind of growth. That is why a lump that is large, hard, fixed, deep or fast-growing should be checked quickly by a surgeon, sometimes with an ultrasound.

What is 'charbi ki ganth ka operation'?

Charbi ki ganth is the everyday name for a lipoma, a soft fatty lump under the skin. Its operation means removing the lump through a small cut, usually under local anaesthesia, as a day-care procedure. The removed fat is sent for a biopsy report to confirm what it was. Creams and tablets cannot melt it, so removal is the reliable option when it troubles you.

How is lipoma removal done, and how long does it take?

We remove most lipomas under local anaesthesia, where only the area is numbed and you stay awake. Our surgeon makes a small cut over the lump, along skin lines where possible, and removes the lipoma completely with its thin capsule. The skin is stitched and the tissue is sent for a biopsy report. It usually takes 20 to 45 minutes, and you usually go home within a few hours.

Will I be put to sleep for lipoma surgery?

Usually not. Most lipomas are removed under local anaesthesia, where only the area is numbed with an injection and you stay awake and comfortable. For very large, deep or multiple lipomas, or in children, spinal or general anaesthesia may be advised. We explain the anaesthesia plan to you before surgery.

What is the lipoma removal recovery time, and what should I eat?

Most people resume light work the next day. Mild pain or swelling for a few days settles with medicines. Keep the dressing clean and dry, avoid heavy use of the area for about a week, and come for stitch removal in 7 to 10 days if the stitches are not dissolvable. No special diet is needed; normal home food is fine, and keep sugar controlled if you have diabetes.

Can a lipoma come back after removal?

When a lipoma is removed completely, it rarely comes back at the same spot. However, some people tend to develop new lipomas at other places over the years. This is not a failure of the operation. Please show any new lump to our doctor, so that we can check it and make a plan.

Can several lipomas be removed in one sitting?

Often, yes. If you have a few lipomas in places that can be reached safely, our surgeon may remove more than one in the same sitting, usually starting with those that are growing, painful or look unusual. For many lipomas, or large and deep ones, we may plan removal in stages, sometimes under spinal or general anaesthesia. Our surgeon discusses which lumps to remove and why.

Is lipoma treatment without surgery possible?

No. Tablets, creams, oils and home remedies do not dissolve a lipoma. If it is small and causes no trouble, it can be watched. If it grows or troubles you, surgical removal is the reliable way to remove it completely. Please avoid applying anything harsh to the skin over the lump, as this can damage the skin.

What decides the lipoma surgery cost?

The cost depends on the size, depth and number of lipomas, local or general anaesthesia, whether an ultrasound is needed first, the biopsy report, day-care or an overnight stay, and medicines. Removing one small lipoma under local anaesthesia needs far fewer resources than several large or deep ones. We give you a clear estimate after the examination, and you can send your reports on WhatsApp first.

Is lipoma removal in Gopalganj covered by the Ayushman card?

Our hospital is empanelled under Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY for general surgery packages, and lipoma excision is on our list of procedures. Our Ayushman help desk confirms whether your lipoma removal is covered, and under which package, after checking your eligibility. Please bring your Ayushman card and a photo ID such as Aadhaar, and ask before the procedure.

I live in Chhapra or Bettiah. Can I come to Gopalganj to get a lipoma removed?

Yes. We regularly treat patients from Chhapra, Bettiah, Siwan, Motihari, Kushinagar and Deoria. We remove most lipomas as day-care under local anaesthesia, so you can usually return home the same day with an attendant. Please send any ultrasound report on WhatsApp to +91 72739 94786 first. Bring your medicine list, a sugar report if you have diabetes, and a photo ID. Our OPD runs Monday to Friday, 10 am to 7 pm.
